Created over a six-month period, Ride incorporates a new, distinct sound and marks a departure from previous work, shifting towards a more structured, focused form of composition, incorporating new sounds that build and fall to reveal space, texture and drama. His first release using the Fairlight CMI keyboard, 'Ride' offers a new sound palette for Grill, engendering experimentation with new patterns, unusual timbres, field recordings, vocals and samples. 'I owe a lot to the Fairlight CMI. Before working on the LP, I wanted a change and to move in a new direction. The Fairlight completely opened up a new way of working and sound palette to draw from."

His latest release is meticulously self-produced with Grill assembling over one hundred tracks and four master versions of the LP, before deciding on the final edit. "The Covid19 lockdown gave me more time than usual to work on the record, reworking tracks, making new edits, experimenting and developing ideas." The resulting twelve tracks take in influences including Krautock, Synth-pop, New wave, Post-punk, Acid house and Ambient.

Grill’s most forward-thinking release to date, ‘Ride’ effortlessly fuses opulent, ambient orchestrations with sequenced rhythms and soaring modulations to create a heady fusion of avant-pop and electronic dance. From the affecting atmospherics of ‘Night’ and ‘Over’, to the synth-pop delights of ‘Sugar’ and deep techno of ‘Swan’, you can hear an absolute love of the possibilities of electronics. Synths sparkle over skittering drum-machine patterns creating vast, echoing spaces and pulsing rhythmic energies. The sounds of ZTT combine with kosmische cool on tracks such as ‘7th’ and ‘Forward’ while the heavenly hum of New Order can be heard in the quite beautiful and majestic ‘Ceremony’.
